57Fe Mössbauer absorption spectra have been recorded for archaeological pottery obtained from the excavated sites of Tamilnadu, namely, Gangaikondacholapuram, Kambanmedu, Melsathamangalam, Guttur, Uraiyur, Vallam and Kanchipuram. An attempt has been made to correlate the Mössbauer parameters with the oxidation states of iron, the colour, the temperature of firing and provenance.
