Analysis of Voyager images of the Ganymede and Callisto 'palimpsests', or large, low-relief, apparently impact-related circular structures, has led to little concensus as to their nature and formation mechanisms. Based in part on observations of buried and exposed secondary and other craters, it is presently argued that the images suggest that the circular high albedo deposit prominent in most palimpsests corresponds to the edge of the continuous ejecta deposit.
