Six typical geomagnetic storms are analyzed from the aspect of varieties of morphology categories of magnetic storms with sudden commencement caused by interplanetary magnetic clouds. The high-density structure in front of magnetic cloud is an important factor in determining the property of the initial phase of geomagnetic storm. Under similar conditions for the magnetic field of mangetic cloud, the velocities of both the background solar wind and the magnetic cloud affect the development and intensity of magnetic storm.
