Using UBVR photographical photometry the mean values of the color indices and their large scale gradients are estimated. The dependence of the axial ratio and the position angle on the semi-major axis are investigated. The results give indirect evidence of existence of a two-armed trailing spiral structure and bar in M31. It is concluded that the morphological functions of an image can be useful for the analysis of the structure of a spiral galaxy in case of a large inclination angle.
