Some prehistoric structures often show alignment with astronomical directions, raising the possibility that early cultures took account of the skies when building, and possibly when using, these structures. Three Neolithic structures in Malta and Gozo, considered to be temples, show orientations that coincide with the direction of a far-southerly moonrise. We attempted to photograph a far-southerly moonrise on the same dates from each of these three sites in order to compare the view. Despite changes to the horizons and sightlines from more recent construction, we established that a far-southerly moonrise was visible from each of these temples.
