We have made a large-scale mapping observation of the Galactic center in the CO (J=2-1) line using the Tokyo-Onsala-ESO-Calan 60 cm telescope at La Silla, Chile. The obtained data are compared with the CO (J=1-0) Columbia survey. The longitude-velocity distribution of physical parameters of the gas are derived from the LVG analysis. An enhancement of the pressure exists in the central region whose radius is about 150 pc. This region is characterized by abundant dense gas and star forming activity. We present a method to derive distances to molecular clouds by comparing CO emission with 1.7 GHz (18 cm) OH absorption. The method only requires some simple assumptions on continuum emissivity and OH opacity, and is independent of kinematical models. Resultant face-on distribution of CO brightness has an elongated central condensation whose size is approximately 500 pc by <200 pc. The overall morphology and kinematics appear quite like the central regions of barred galaxies.
