Moessbauer spectra for several iron-bearing phases of the octahedrite Toluca show the utility of this type of spectroscopy for detecting small amounts of paramagnetic phases. A strong six-line pattern similar to that for kamacite was found for taenite; in addition, a weak singlet was noted. The singlet can be related to the nonequilibrium paramagnetic form, while the six-line pattern is due to the ferromagnetic form of taenite. A weak doublet due to some nonmagnetic phase was detected in the troilite spectrum.
