An interplanetary shock wave played the major role in forming the time
profile of the solar proton event of 23-24 March 1991. The interaction
of protons with this wave led to an energy-dependent angular
distribution of particles at the atmospheric boundary, which was
recorded in stratospheric measurements in the Antarctic.
