A previously proposed modification of Walecka's Mean Field Theory (MFT) of high density matter called the Modified Mean Field Theory (MMFT) is discussed and compared with the MFT. It is shown that the two-body correlation function available at present cannot distinguish between the two models. By taking the repulsive interaction between two nucleons to be caused by the interchange of omega mesons, an expression is found for the vector meson mean field and a new solution ml = 2 is obtained. Rho-mesons are introduced into the MMFT and the resulting equations of state and symmetric energy of nuclear matter are calculated. The results are compared with those for ml = 4.3. Finally, the maximum mass of a neutron star is calculated for various equations of state.
