Attention is given to the reverse nonlinear coupling process represented by the effect of an equilibrium electrojet with a marginally stable type I mode which is perturbed by an infinitessimal, long wavelength, low frequency type II perturbation. A brief assessment is made of the implications, for models of the nonlinear saturation of type II modes, of the presence of a finite-amplitude type I mode, which can substantially alter the dispersion relation of type II irregularities in the equatorial electrojet region of the ionosphere.
