A model of the vertical nighttime distribution of the 6300 A red line of oxygen is developed for two levels of solar activity (Zuerich sunspot number of 10 and 100), various seasonal conditions, and latitudes of 45 and 18 degrees. The model is obtained on the basis of an iterative model of the ionosphere and the CIRA-72 atmospheric model. The calculations, and the plots of the emission rate obtained, are used as a basis to deduce some characteristics of the local vertical intensity distribution of the red line of oxygen.
