Secular geomagnetic variations are represented as a series of spherical harmonic coefficients up to n = m = 8 for three overlapping intervals, 1980-1985 1982.5-1987.5 and 1985-1990. The IZMSV 87, BGSSV 87 and USGSSV 87 forecasting models are compared with extrapolated secular variation observations and with one another. The first and the last models are shown to agree best.
