A method of modelling the properties of magnetic hysteresis for application in rock magnetism is presented. Special attention is focused on the analytical expression of the model function and on the modelling of reversible changes, which are topical in this field of application. A haematite sample is used as an example to demonstrate the model, and the problems of the stability of the Preisach diagram are discussed.
