Attention is given to a nonstationary model of the auroral E-region, which makes it possible to calculate electron and ion density profiles and their variations during disturbances. Using Eiscat incoherent-scattering data, it is shown that this model reproduces experimentally observed variations of the layer medium height as well as variations of the electron density and the form of the profile in the layer. The main features characterizing variations of electron-density profiles during auroral disturbances are examined.
