An overview is given of mission and operations aspects of the Helios project. Subjects treated are the basic launch geometry and the velocity requirements, the characteristics of the Atlas-Centaur and Titan-Centaur launch windows and the Titan-Centaur launch configurations. Also treated are Helios-A launch and orbit data, spacecraft technical design considerations, the thermal, power and attitude subsystems, attitude orientation maneuvers, the telecommunication subsystem, the scientific instruments, and the spacecraft structural design and configurations. Other subjects include the mission operations concept, the ground facilities, the ground data system and the mission operations organization. Helios A flight operations and performance are discussed.
