Nonlinear properties of the mirror instability are investigated by direct integration of the quasi-linear diffusion equation [Shapiro and Shevchenko, 1964] near threshold. The simulation results are compared to the results of standard hybrid simulations [Califano et al., 2008] and discussed in the context of the nonlinear dynamical model by Kuznetsov et al. [2007].
