Review of data on pulsating auroras recorded at Bedford, Massachusetts, in March 1969 during a worldwide magnetic storm (representing the only known published observations of pulsating auroras at such low magnetic latitudes). The characteristics displayed by these auroras have previously been observed in pulsating auroras in the auroral oval. The observations indicate that the auroral oval expanded during the worldwide magnetic storm until the boundary of the auroral oval was near 55 deg cgm latitude. The implications of these observations for the source mechanisms of these pulsating auroras are discussed.
