Callisto Surface: Microstructure
Scientific paper
Using ground-based photoelectric observations with narrow-band filter λ0.54 μm, the authors have obtained solar phase curves of the leading and trailing hemispheres of Callisto. The integrated (over the disk) phase data are approximated by Hapke's photometric function. The authors find the model parameters describing the surface of the atmosphereless body: the single scattering albedo ω and Henyey-Greenstein asymmetry factor g of a particle, the amplitude B0 and the width h of the opposition effect. The parameters for leading and trailing hemispheres have been obtained. The authors attribute the differences of characteristics of the hemispheres to more intensive micrometeoritic bombardment on the leading side.
