The relationships between the solar wind (SW) quantities which govern the geomagnetic activity and the geomagnetic parameters are investigated by calculating the time lags in the response to SW conditions of the auroral zone geomagnetic activity. Results show that the fluctuations of the IMF vector B trigger, either in the magnetospheric structure or in the mechanism of SW-magnetosphere coupling, the processes leading to the time-delayed auroral zone geomagnetic activity. The effect is most pronounced when Bs is positive.
