Some aspects of terminal guidance for soft landing are examined, with particular reference to the use of systems that will measure the distance to the planetary surface, the velocity vector of the craft, or the velocity-to-height ratio. The use of programs characterized by constant fuel consumption, by constant acceleration, or by a constant velocity-to-height ratio during the descent phase is analyzed, along with the use of systems characterized by a wide range of thrust level control.
