A scalar equation for the electric potential equivalent to Maxwell's set of equations for monochromatic fields has been obtained. An explicit expression for the amplitudes of electromagnetic fields of the free solutions has also been obtained. The general exact solution of the problem of field generation in an homogeneous magnetoactive plasma by a plane acoustic-gravity wave and by an acoustic pulse of arbitrary form has been derived. The effect of electromagnetic backward radiation during the passage of an acoustic pulse through an ionospheric plasma inhomogeneity has been studied and numerically simulated.
