A method and algorithm are described for the automatic compensation of geometrical distortions, which were developed with consideration given to the specific requirements caused by the unique features of automated astronomical television equipment. The accuracy of the compensation algorithm, formulated on the basis of approximation splines, is evaluated by means of a mathematical model of the geometrical distortions.
