Methane has been detected in the martian atmosphere at an average
concentration of 10+/-5 ppbv. We estimated the methane production in
Mars' atmosphere due to meteoroid ablation at 2.2 ppbv by using a
"pancake" model to simulate the flight of the meteoroid through Mars'
atmosphere.
