It has been proposed that spherules of magnetic material found near meteorite craters were formed from meteorite matter during ablation. The present letter reports that structures analogous to this 'meteoric dust' were observed in magnetic fractions of rocks ejected from volcanoes in a traprock province of northwestern Siberia. Properties of these structures are described in detail, and it is shown that this 'dust' is associated with moissanite. It is concluded that the origin of the spherules found near meteorite craters cannot be definitively determined.
