We report on the first results on wind and temperature trends in the mesopause region observed with SKiYMET radar installed at Kokubunji (35.7°N, 139.5°E). The radar became operational in March 2004, thus enabling us to analyze more than one and a half years of data. The neutral temperature is estimated by determining the ambipolar diffusion coefficient variation as a function of height, and is then corrected by application of a temperature-gradient model. The seasonal variations in mesopause temperature indicate that winter mesopause region warmer and summer mesopause is colder. The observed zonal and meridional winds are analyzed and found that the seasonal features are consistent with the results reported for the mid-latitudes. Further, we have taken some initiatives to expand the analysis with other datasets from nearby sites, and focusing more on atmospheric tidal and planetary wave phenomena. The paper will address the results of this analysis as well.
