Concepts for in-situ resource utilisation on Mars are briefly overviewed. Promising mission scenarios using the metal-CO2 propulsion, such as Mars multi-sample return mission and Mars ballistic hopper mission, are outlined. Important issues in development of the metal- CO2 propulsion system are identified and the promising solutions are suggested. The ESA-funded programme of research required for development of the metal-CO2 propulsion system is presented.
