A novel type of confined arc has been constructed. Its high magnesium density (up to several 1015 cm-3) provides some unusual spectroscopic features. Relative f-values have been measured for the lines 31 P- n 1 D, n=4...9 and 31 P- n 1 S, n=5,6. By separate comparison with the line 33 P {1/0}-33 P 2, these values were placed on an absolute scale.
