A study of the boundary conditions for the equatorial thermospheric transport equations has led to the theoretical prediction of the vertical electric field at the base of the F-region. This model is applied to the calculation of the F-region electric current field in the meridional plane as a function of time and the east-west magnetic field generated by these currents. In particular, the field at sunset is compared with the observations made by Magsat.
