Scientific paper

The paper deals with a possible magnetospheric propagation mechanism associated with the refraction of radio waves by electron concentration gradients. The retardation of short-wave signals in the magnetosphere and during passage through the ionosphere is evaluated for propagation paths extending from the European USSR to magnetically conjugate regions in the Indian Ocean. Magnetospheric propagation of the whispering gallery type is examined, along with signal channeling at discontinuities of low ionization density.
