Mirrors: Support Systems

Scientific paper

The JNLT will introduce a 7.5 m thin meniscus mirror as the primary mirror, which is one of the design features of the JNLT. The biggest difficulty associated with the high image quality of the large flexible mirror is found in its support system. The mirror support system requires a large number of force actuators whose support accuracy is much higher than that of the traditional mirror support actuator. A prototype force actuator for the JNLT satisfying the high force accuracy has been developed and evaluated.
