Adaptive optics (AO) is well suited to measuring black hole masses in nearby galaxies, because in many cases one can resolve the gravitational sphere of influence of the supermassive black hole. This paper will give an overview of black hole masses measured in nearby galaxies with AO, and specifically will describe our recent results for the ongoing galaxy merger NGC 6240.
