A whisker-contacted 5 fF Schottky-barrier diode in a reduced-height waveguide has been employed as a mixer at 460 GHz. Measured double-sideband mixer noise temperature is 3600 K at F(LO) = 459 GHz and F(IF) = 1.7 GHz, at 300 K ambient temperature. The noise from the carcinotron local oscillator is suppressed by more than 35 dB using a Martin-Puplett polarization diplexer. Measurements of diplexer behavior and losses of various materials at 460 GHz are also reported.
