Negative space charge formation at ground level above a very dry ground surface has been measured at high wind speeds. This is opposite to the conditions of the electrode effect above a ground surface, which leads to low space charge density for growing turbulence. A possible mechanism for the electrification can be drifting particles from the ground surface. A temperature gradient effect may provide an explanation for the particle electrification.
