We present the laboratory measurements of light scattering by rough surfaces, i.e. alumina plate with different degree of roughness, two layers of alumina particles with diameters of 2mm and 500mum, and a layer of alumina powder. It is found that a specular reflection disappears as the roughness of the plate or the size of particle layer increases. In addition, the anisotropic scattering observed in our measurements can be described by bidirectional reflectance models. Our measurements will be used to analyse the in situ photo-polarimetric data of asteroid NEREUS obtained by an asteroid sample return mission (MUSES-C in ISAS) in 2002.
