Recent measurements made by the U.K. incoherent scatter radar system have provided the total vector of plasma drift in the ionosphere above Malvers. By separating the velocity components parallel to and perpendicular to the magnetic field, the effects of the neutral wind and plasma diffusion can be separated from the effects of an applied electric field. The results give clear evidence of induced ion drag, but the time-lag between the original response to an applied electric field and the development of induced ion drag is not as long as would be expected from the published estimates of the neutral-ion collision frequency.
