Future application of two-photon induced Lyman-α fluorescence (2γ-Lα) measurements as an isotope selective determination of small neutral densities (H, D, T) in magnetically confined fusion plasmas requires quantitative studies of this novel technique. A first feasibility study has been terminated recently at a plasma beam (Ne~5.1012 cm-3, Te~10 eV), dedicated to the development of fusion plasma diagnostics. The 2γ-Lα signals were obtained from a measurement volume of 0.1 cm3 only, although the background radiation was as expected for tokamak plasmas. Good detection sensitivity was achieved for atomic number densities down to 1010 cm-3.
