A fixed probe-pair method proposed by the authors for estimating the wave-number spectral moments of fluctuations is applied to current-driven ion wave turbulence developed in a positive mercury column. Analog and digital processing of the fluctuation signals sensed by two fixed Langmuir probes is carried out, and good agreement is obtained between them. A frequency-based relay correlator is used for the analog processing. The mean wavenumber and the wavenumber spectral width parallel and perpendicular to the direction of the electron drift are obtained as functions of frequency. The results obtained by the present method are consistent with those obtained by the microwave scattering method.
