Are the orbits of extrasolar planets aligned with the spin axes of their parent stars? Planet formation theories predict a close alignment, as observed for Solar system planets. However, some of the planetary ``migration'' mechanisms that have been proposed would perturb any initial alignment. Thus, it is interesting to measure spin-orbit alignment, as a means of discriminating between these theories. This can be done for transiting exoplanets by exploiting the Rossiter effect: the anomalous Doppler shift of stellar absorption lines due to the partial occultation of the rotating stellar surface. We request one night with Keck/HIRES to monitor the Doppler shift of HD 189733 throughout a transit of its giant planet. Based on Rossiter theory and past experience, we expect to measure the angle between the projected spin and orbit axes to within about 4 degrees.
