^12C(α,γ)^16O is one of the most important reactions for stellar evolution(T. A. Weaver and S. E. Woosley, Phys. Rep. 227, 65(1993).). The cross section within the astrophysical important region (around 300 keV) is so tiny (10-17 b) that no direct measurement may reach this region with modern technology. The interference effects arising from the two subthreshold resonances make the extrapolation based on direct measurements less reliable. It was suggested that the β delayed α spectrum of ^16N is a good constraint for S(E1) component in this reaction(J. Humblet et al., Phys. Rev. C44, 2530(1991).). However the huge β background make this type experiment very difficult. It is the first time that we employed β insensitive gas detector to measure the β delayed α spectrum of ^16N. Preliminary result will be presented.
