The magnification factor of IR and thermal-band afocal telescopes is difficult to measure to accuracies in excess of 1 percent. Attention is presently given to measurement methods that have been experimentally evaluated in pursuit of a target accuracy of 0.1 percent, for the case of a scanning thermal imaging system operating in the 8-12 micron spectral region. Results are presented for a nominally 3X telescope. An interferometric method is noted to be the most repeatable and accurate.
