PREVIOUS attempts1-3 with the 250-ft. radio telescope at Jodrell Bank to measure magnetic fields in interstellar clouds in the Milky Way by observing the Zeeman splitting of their neutral hydrogen line profiles failed to show any clear evidence for fields greatar than 10-5 gauss. The observations of February 19623 indicated a possible Zeeman splitting in some clouds, but with the sensitivity of the receiver and the band-width of 5 kc/s used in that work the result could, not be verified in a significant manner. This communication describes a new an d successful attempt to measure the magnetic field.
