A new nondestructive method of measuring the axial distribution of the
refractive index in blanks for graded optical elements is subjected to a
numerical analysis. The method employs simple equipment in its
implementation and it provides for a completely unique reconstruction of
the expansion coefficients of the refractive index having high accuracy.
