A numerical study of the formation of a current sheet from an intense perturbation wave with a magnetic Mach number of approximately 1 is presented. It is found that the velocity of plasma flow into the sheet is less than Alfven velocity. The decrease of velocity of plasma flow to the sheet is determined by counterpressure of the magnetic field, whose strength near the sheet increases as a result of the accumulation of unreconnected magnetic field lines. Results demonstrate the existence of a maximum velocity of magnetic reconnection, which amounts to tenths of the magnetic Mach number. The influence of this phenomenon on reconnection in the earth's magnetosphere is discussed
