A modified geometrical-optics technique is used in a quasi-isotropic approximation to analyze the problem of the maximum polarization of an electromagnetic wave passing through a thick statistically uniform anisotropic layer containing random nonuniformities. A relation between maximum polarization and the parameters of the characteristic properties of the medium is noted. Application of the present analysis to a magnetically active plasma is discussed.
