Radiative Transfer: Polarization
Scientific paper
The author presents a new way to solve the equation of polarized radiative transfer in the Stokes formalism. The solution is written in terms of the matrix exponential function and a simple explicit expression for it is given. This formal solution can be solved analytically for any elementary integrable source functions or be used as a step in a numerical integration. As an example, the Unno solution is derived in a very elegant way.
