K-band imaging spectroscopy is presented for a sample of Galactic ultra-compact HII regions observed with the Near infrared Integral Field Spectrograph (NIFS) on the Fredrick Gillett Gemini North telescope. The data were obtained using the facility adaptive optics module ALTAIR in both natural guide star (NGS) and laser guide star (LGS) modes. NIFS/ALTAIR provides a powerful combination of sensitivity, wavelength coverage, and fine angular scale which is very effective in exploring the compact massive star forming regions. Our data cubes reveal photospheric features of embedded massive stars as well as providing emission line diagnostics which can be used to resolve the HII region properties spatially on scales of less than 0.1 pc.
