There has been much interest in the nuclear astrophysics community recently in the mass of the N=Z waiting point nuclei, such as ^68Se. Waiting point nuclei arise where further proton capture leads to a p-unbound isotone or where the Q value for the (p,γ) reaction is low, making the reverse reaction possible. The ^69Br nucleus is believed to be unbound, thus in order for the rp-process to continue beyond ^68Se, it must wait for β-decay or proceed via 2 proton capture. The time spent at the waiting point is strongly dependent on the mass and lifetime of ^68Se, and a good knowledge of these properties is crucial for nucleosynthesis calculations. A mass measurement of ^68Se has been performed at the Argonne National Laboratory. Recoiling ^68Se nuclei from the ^12C(^58Ni,2n)^68Se reaction at 208 MeV were selected by the Fragment Mass Analyser and implanted onto a moving tape collector system. At regular intervals, the implantation point was moved to a counting station comprised of three high purity Germanium detectors and a plastic scintillation counter. β-γ coincidences were recorded allowing the measurement of the β end-point energy, and hence the mass, of ^68Se to be determined from β spectra gated on known γ-rays in the ^68As daughter nucleus. Results and their implications will be discussed
