The paper describes the Mars Balloon Relay (MBR) telemetry equipment designed to provide a redundant link for the collection and transmission of scientific data to the earth from the U.S. and the Soviet Mars exploration satellites (Mars Observer and Mars 94, respectively) that are planned to be in the Mars orbit by August 1994. The physical parameters, the transmit-receive characteristics, the system characteristics, and the Doppler measurement accuracy of the MBR transmitter/receiver equipment are given.
