The goal of CNSR Rosetta mission is to increase the human knowledge about the comet nucleus properties. The mission will consist, after a space flyby, of a landing on a comet nucleus, collection of samples, return to earth with the samples stowed in a capsule performing a direct reentry. After recovery of the capsule, the samples will be analyzed in scientific laboratories. The SEPCORE concept has been proposed to reduce the heatshield mass. This concept requires the introduction of a thermal resistant structure. The application of SEPCORE concept on the CNSR Rosetta Earth Return Capsule allows a 50 percent mass saving of the Thermal Protection Subsystem which represents about 20 percent of the overall capsule mass. The mass budget established with this design meets the mission requirements.
