Nuclear astrophysics combines inputs from different fields with the objective of explaining the abundances and evolution of chemical elements in the Universe. Future radioactive ion beam facilities will provide access to many of the nuclei that participate in explosive nucleosynthesis scenarios. To fully exploit the potential of these facilities progress in theoretical nuclear physics will be required. This article reviews different many-body methods currently used for the description of processes relevant for nuclear astrophysics.
